After an unexpected event that forced me and my partner to resort to an emergency contraceptive drug, we turned to the pharmacy closest to the first aid point, namely the aforementioned Farmacia D'Alessio & Co. in Ronciglione. The doctor at the ED showed us the EllaOne pill which can be purchased in pharmacies without a medical prescription, according to decision n°105 published in the Official Journal of the Italian Republic on 8 May 2015 by the Italian Medicines Agency. So we showed up at the counter convinced we were right, but evidently the two pharmacists didn't agree. As soon as she heard the name of the drug, one of the two began to write on a PC saying that she couldn't find medicines with that name ("I'm trying them all: with one L, with two L...")... Then when mine girlfriend pointed out to her that it was a contraceptive and began to claim that a prescription was needed or that it was NOT even AVAILABLE IN ITALY yet! To conclude, the icing on the cake: in front of another customer and with absolute contempt for our privacy, the two sales assistants started shouting at each other from a distance first and in the next room, then phrases like "Here there is a girl who wants the pill the next day without a prescription, but I don't think it's possible!", and the other "No no!!". Whether it was ignorance or conscientious objection disguised as such, it was behavior that was deplorable to say the least and not in keeping with the social function being carried out. A paradoxical situation that I hope will never happen again..
