In 1824 Dr. Alessandro Giorgi purchased a property in Corso Giuseppe Mazzini and built a pharmacy. The Giorgi family carried on the business for over a century and, around 1920, handed over the license to Dr. Giuseppe Vesi who took over together with a partner. Since then the pharmacy has been owned by the Vesi family. In 1965, the building that houses the pharmacy was demolished to create a square, Piazza Almericci which takes its name from the noble Almericci family from Cesena. Despite the total renovation undergone, the furnishings of this singular pharmacy (one of the few in Italy to have this characteristic round shape) are all original and date back to two centuries ago. Some of the marble tables that decorated the entrance have been moved to the lower part, used as a warehouse. Only the frescoes that decorated the ceiling of the room were lost in the reconstruction: "They could have been saved, with the tear-off technique", but evidently perhaps there was not enough time to carry out the tear-off work, because it requires a long and laborious Work". While the rest remained intact and well preserved.
It is a pharmacy that smells of antiquity; with wood paneling and display cabinets complete with little trees. It's like all pharmacies should be: full of a thousand products that give the feeling that there is absolutely everything there to cure one's ailments. I wonder if in the back there are retorts and stills with mortars and pestles for preparing galenic medicines. Too much imagination! It is a pharmacy that has all the products of other pharmacies; it couldn't be otherwise. This one is really beautiful though.
Kindness and competence!
